Karate Kid Club

Call Kate on 07989 773950

Thank you for your interest in our karate club.

My name is Kate and I lead the junior club.

We cater for children from 5 to 13 years living in the BS5, BS15, BS16, BS30 and BS31 Bristol post codes. In other words, Warmley, Kingswood, Staple Hill, Frenchay, Downend, Keynsham, Saltford, Hanham, Emersons Green and Longwell Green areas. Of course children from other areas of Bristol and Bath are also welcome.

At our club the children learn and experience many things not just karate! We enjoy working hard and having fun!

We teach karate in a way that blends martial arts with important life skills like, being respectful to others, saying please and thank you and learning to focus and concentrate on any given task. The children also learn the value of team work, motivation and self discipline.

As experienced instructors we recognise that not all children develop at the same pace. Some lessons have to be adjusted to meet particular needs.

If your son or daughter is aged 5 or 6 years we have a specially designed “Tiger” group who meet separately from the main junior classes. Please click here for more details.

We do not run mixed classes of adults and children. As a group ultimately focussed on realistic martial art training, the intensity and physical demands required for each group are quite different.

As a mother myself I appreciate that choosing the right activity for your son or daughter can be very difficult so please contact me with any questions you may have – I want to help.

Interested in Becoming a Karate Kid?

Before making any decisions you should know a little bit about me so here goes. I have been practising karate for 30 years and although karate has an aggressive reputation I can honestly say that that is not my style. Discipline yes, bullying very definitely no!

I have a real passion for teaching the children and it was that passion which led to the opening of the club nearly 23 years ago. Since that time the karate kid club has developed into a wonderful vibrant part of my life.

It’s a terrific junior club full of great people, (children and adults), but don’t take my word for it! Click here to read comments from some of the parents and children.

Shy or children lacking in self confidence need not be afraid!

Experience suggests that many children are put off by ‘the unknown’ or feeling self conscious. The thought of being “thrown in at the deep end” can be scary for kids and adults!!

To overcome this problem we have created a simple solution. Two 45-minute, introductory sessions. I call these “intros”, AND two introductory weeks of normal lessons.

The sessions give you and your son or daughter an opportunity to meet me and get an impression about what we offer. They will learn some very basic moves and show them exactly what they need to do so they don’t feel lost when they come to a normal class.

Competition and Rewards

We are authentic martial art enthusiasts and traditionally our style of karate does not embrace sporting competition. Our karate kids do not fight to score points. Having said that the children are constantly challenged and there is a natural rivalry.

We know it is important to recognise their hard work and dedication. As they progress their achievement is formally recognised by the award of coloured belts and certificates. Of course they all want to be a black belt one day!!

We appreciate that children like rewards therefore we also present cloth badges (like the cubs or brownies) when, for example, a child learns to tie their karate belt or is able to recite our student creed. Exceptionally good behaviour is also rewarded with stars which are sewn onto the karate suits and worn with pride!
